2024 Community Performance

In the 2024 field season, Donlin Gold LLC continued its commitment to local hiring, with 44% of direct hires being Alaska Natives from ten Y-K communities. Many of these individuals are members of federally recognized Tribes and shareholders of Calista and TKC. This achievement is particularly meaningful in a region where employment opportunities are scarce compared to urban areas.
Beyond workforce development, Donlin Gold expanded its engagement with local communities by establishing three additional Shared Value Statements, bringing the total to 18. These statements formalize long-standing relationships and support essential community initiatives. Key focus areas include infrastructure projects for water, sewer, and solid waste management, maintaining the ice road that connects remote villages, conducting studies on salmon and aquatic life, and implementing suicide prevention programs alongside broader health and public safety efforts.
Looking ahead to 2025, Donlin Gold remains committed to strengthening partnerships through additional Shared Value Statements with Y-K region communities while continuing to uphold commitments to those already established. By working together, we aim to create lasting, meaningful benefits for the region.
In 2024, Donlin Gold had 14,106 engagements with key individual stakeholders and community organizations across 62 communities in the Y-K region, representing an increase from last year’s total of 13,103. This year-over-year increase is a direct result of heightened efforts to engage with local communities and stakeholders in the Y-K region. Led by a community relations team made up entirely of Alaska Native and Tribal members, communication is carried out with deep respect for community traditions. The team’s approach goes beyond simply sharing information; it actively seeks feedback on both current and future project activities. Key aspects of this engagement are conducted in Yup’ik, the primary language spoken by many Elders, and in several villages.
